General Educational Development (G.E.D.)
What is General Educational Development?
A testing program for Adult High School Equivalency to measure the knowledge and skills adults acquire through
work, training, travelling, reading and other informal learning. This is not recommended for those with learning
difficulties and in order to be successful clients should be functioning between Grade 9 - 11 levels to use this
as a fast track method.
|
What does it consist of?
The G.E.D. consists of five multiple choice tests and one written essay that together require a total maximum
time of 7 hours and 35 minutes to complete. The test is usually completed over a 2 day period and can only be
attempted twice a year. Test dates are usually scheduled every other month. Those who achieve a passing grade in
all of the five subject areas receive an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate, not an Ontario High
School Diploma. While the tests cover five subject areas at the secondary school level: Writing Skills, Science,
Mathematics, Social Studies and Literature and the Arts, the Results are based on two main areas (English and Math)
If you fail the math portion, but pass the english, you must retake the math portion.
